Advent Season

This past Sunday was the 1st Sunday of Advent.  Advent means "arrival" or "coming."  It's a time of joyful anticipation & preparation for the coming of Christ at Christmas, (both as a baby & also his second coming in glory).  For Roman Catholics it's also the Church's "New Year's Day" because a new liturgical year begins.

Nate & I made an advent calendar to prepare our family for the season.  Basically it's a countdown calendar to Christmas.  In most advent calenders children open up little doors each day to receive some kind of sweet treat.  Since Nico can't have candy we decided to surprise him with daily drawings of  his favorite words.  For example, he opened up day 1 & found a picture of a fish, day 2 was a star,  day 3 a bell, day 4 a bee, etc.  Day 5 was supposed to be a blue circle, but Nico corrected me & said it was a ball, haha!  For Nate & myself, we are given a daily scripture, reflection, & an advent action.  For example, on day 4 we were asked to make spiritual resolutions (just like making new year's resolutions).

It's a fun thing our family can do together & puts us in the right kind of Christmas spirit. Hopefully, this can become a family tradition.
